Rutherford Pool is owned by the City of Ypsilanti. The pool is governed by a volunteer board called Friends of Rutherford Pool. Below are our current board members.
Jessica Faul - Is the current president of the board. She loves the pool because of the sense of community there. It is a fun place to see friends and neighbors and meet new people. Jessica works at the University of Michigan as an epidemiologist. Her perfect day would include gardening or spending time outside with people she loves. Good food is a must too!
Stephanie Hart - Her favorite part of the pool is that she loves seeing neighbors and their families being active and running into each other! “There is such a great feeling of being a part of your community when you are there.” Her profession is departmental administration at the University of Michigan. Her perfect day would be waking up without an alarm and taking off for an adventure in the woods or on the water with family or friends.
Sarah Borgstadt - Is the treasurer for the Board. Her first memories of the pool include learning to swim during summer lessons. “I now get to enjoy the pool with my own kids. I work as a nurse at Mott PACU. My perfect day includes any time spent by water, sun, and family. “
Kristen Teasdale - "I grew up in a region where many of us swam before we could walk. The sense of joy, comfort, and safety that comes with knowing how to swim and having access to a place to swim is a huge driver in my support for and love of Rutherford Pool. I've spent most of my career in the nonprofit sector and believe deeply in the power of community and connection. We love meeting up with other families and making new friends at the pool, especially during Tot Splash and Family Swim!"
Joel Rutherford - If the name looks familiar, that is because the pool is named after my dad, Jesse Rutherford.Ypsi is my hometown, I grew up on the south side. After High School I attended EMU, where the counselors informed me that there was no major at EMU for playing spades and bid whist.
So, I joined the US Air Force, where I spent just over 20 years, 10 of those overseas. After retirement I went to work for a Department of Defense contractor and later returned to Michigan to work at Selfridge ANGB near Mt Clemens. Being an air traffic controller for a total of 38 years was the best career I could imagine.
Cathy, our pool director, contacted me, unexpectedly, asking me if I was related to Jesse Rutherford? I told her yes, that is my dad. With that I was invited to join the volunteer board of Rutherford Pool.
I am honored to be a member of the pool board. Over the years it has been an outstanding group of people to work with and so much has been accomplished due to the outstanding effort and dedication of everyone who has been a part of Rutherford Pool. I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to give back to my hometown.
M. Jeanice Townsend - My favorite thing about the pool is its history and the pool's commitment to the community. The success of the pool is built on the board's commitment to providing a quality recreation venue that is clean, safe, fun, and memorable. For nearly 30 years, M. Jeanice Townsend has dedicated herself to improving the quality of life in her hometown of Ypsilanti, Michigan. With a strong focus on community service, she works to overcome the challenges she faced growing up.
Townsend has a diverse background in banking, holding various leadership positions for 14 years until the 2008 market crash. For the past 16 years, she has succeeded as a full-time Realtor, using her banking knowledge to thrive in her career. In 2024, she became a Program Coordinator at Washtenaw Community College's Parkridge Community Center, which holds personal significance for her. Her objective is to establish sustainable career and college readiness programs that benefit the community's economy and uphold the center's legacy.
A proud Ypsilanti Public Schools graduate, Townsend was appointed and then elected as a Trustee for the Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education. Her community-focused leadership aims to transform YCS into a progressive district that prepares students for success. Townsend is also active in various organizations, including the Washtenaw Area School Board Association and the Washtenaw Community Action Board.
Eric Moore- His favorite part of the pool is the deep end! By day he is a house painter and by night he is a musician. Eric reports that his favorite day would start with a lazy morning with 2 extra cups of coffee, then either XC skiing or biking thru lunch, lunch, hunker down in the kitchen, and make some seriously good food.
Evalyn Yanna - Evalyn moved to Ypsilanti in 2015 and was excited to find Rutherford Pool! Her favorite part is the adult swim time, water exercise, and most of all the sense of community that Rutherford brings to Ypsilanti. A great day includes sleeping in, brunch, and the afternoon at the pool on a perfect summer day.
Brett Snyder - lives in Ypsilanti with his wife, mother-in-law and two dogs. He has worked in the nonprofit sector for several years and currently works for Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels. Brett grew up in rural Pennsylvania and has great memories of going to the community pool with friends as a kid, and chilly early morning swim practices as a teenager. Since arriving in Ypsilanti in 2015 Brett has been involved with organizing the annual Kids Triathlon.
